There is no way to delete user accounts at Craigslist.org, the site does not provide tools or information on how the account termination process works, and to make things even more interesting the site’s privacy policy states that they can retain all your data if they want to. In other words, after creating an account and entering all your personal information on the site’s sign up page, you’re doomed.
I believe that your best bet is to contact customer service directly and ask them personally to close your account, if you decide to go down this route don’t forget to ask them to erase your postings, contributions, and data as well. But since they have rights to retain your data, I don’t think that they’ll go that far in order to help you out.
So before writing a letter to customer service to ask them for help, you should first delete your posts and other contributions all by yourself, that way you’ll make your sure that your data is useless, and they’ll have no other choice but to help you out.
Although deleting posts is not necessary because all posts expire automatically and get deleted after a certain amount of time has elapsed, it sure does help to speed up the process. To edit or delete your Craigslist posts use the links on your account homepage, simply go to Craigslist.org, log in to your account, and then click on the “Delete” link under the “Manage” tab to confirm the deletion of your post(s).
Once you’ve deleted all your Craigslist posts go to your account settings page and try to erase as much of your personal information as possible.
When you’re ready go to http://sfbay.craigslist.org/contact, click on the “Technical Support” link at the top of the page, select “I need help with my Craigslist Account”, then click on the “Contact Us” link for assistance, and now fill out the contact form that will instantly show up in a pop-up browser.
All you have to do is enter your full name in the first field, then enter your account email address in the “Email” box, type in something relevant in the Subject field like “Request Account Deletion” or something like that, explain why you want to close your account in the “Description” box, and click “Send Message”.
Then you will just have to wait for a reply, and if you’re lucky they will be kind enough to terminate your account without further questions or concerns.
